New York Times bestselling author, Emma Hart, brings together two polar-opposite single parents in the second book in the sinfully sexy Vegas Nights series.
Detective Adrian Potter had a lot to answer for. I didn’t care that he was tasked with shutting down the city’s most prolific hookers.
I cared that he was stopping me from providing for my daughter.
He didn’t care.
Not at all.
Until I broke down in the backseat of his car… And he let me go.
Adrian was a single parent, too. He knew how hard I had it. At least, he thought he did.
He had a job. He had people who cared. He didn’t know just how lucky he was.
My name is Perrie Fox.
I was a whore of the highest value.
Until Detective Adrian Potter.
Until the tattooed, redemption-seeking detective entered my life, looking for his fairytale.
The cop and the hooker.
Happily ever fucking never.
You’ve met one Fox sibling.
Now meet the other…

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

With this latest release in the Vegas Nights series readers are introduced to a unique twist on the Pretty Woman theme as a woman who came from a family of wealth finds herself stuck in the world of prostitution until a chance encounter with an undercover cop changes her life irrevocably.  Sensual and rapid-fire banter keeps readers entertained while their heartstrings are pulled by two characters betrayed by their pasts who find themselves a delightful match despite their very obvious differences.  Happening in tandem with the previous installment in this series drama abounds as siblings try to reunite while they both work their way towards HEA.

Perrie Fox grew up a daughter of wealth and privilege but with the overdose of her sister everything started to crumble.  Her mother's suicide, her father's resentment and hatred of her, and an unplanned pregnancy all led to a reversal of fortune that left her on her own and the sole provider for her daughter.  With no real skills except her looks she had no choice but to turn to prostitution and soon becomes an expert at finding marks.  The only time her intuition fails her though is the moment a sexy dark haired man with tattoos and a smirk sidles up to her at a bar.  He's charismatic and flirty and for once she's looking forward to a "date"...until he pulls out his cuffs and arrests her.  It's a moment that breaks her and shows her just how far she's fallen, but on the verge of a panic attack he does the unexpected and lets her go.  It's not the last time she sees him though and when Adrian Potter shows up next he's offering her an ultimatum.  She can either help him find others like her to arrest or go to jail herself.  Her decision ultimately changes their dynamic and puts them in close quarters as each of them discovers more about the other every night they pretend to be a couple.  As work and real life begin to blur they can no longer deny their attraction.  But a chance to reunite with her brother, and regain her wealth, may be the one difference he can't get past.  Perrie's a strong-willed woman who's self-deprecating when it comes to her job.  She's not proud of what she does but would do anything to care for her daughter.  After seeing the worst in men she's reluctant to open herself up to love but with every word and deed Adrian starts to work his way into her heart.  He's good with her daughter and she finds him equally endearing when he's interacting with his own son. She's a woman who stands up for herself and gives as good as she gets in their verbal battle of wills.  Because of her no-nonsense attitude readers might be frustrated by Perrie's choice not to accept her brother's monthly checks, but there's years of hurt behind that decision.  He and her father's dismissal of her pregnancy being the biggest betrayal as her daughter is her proudest achievement.  Her interactions with Lola show a loving mother/daughter relationship with moments of humor and it makes them a formidable family.  It will take a good man with a heart of gold to join that family and readers will agree that Adrian becomes the ideal hero.

Adrian Potter's past is a painful one as well.  Betrayed by the woman he loved as she got caught up in the world of sex and human trafficking, he was left bitter and determined to bring sex workers to justice.  To survive he's closed his heart off and devotes himself instead to his son Zac.  Their interactions are endearing with chuckle-worthy banter that shows Adrian's softer side as at work he's cold and focused.  The moment he meets Perrie though he's forever changed.  He can't keep her just at arm's length, he can't treat her as just a co-worker.  As he learns what's in her heart she becomes all too real and quickly becomes someone he can't live without.  But as her circumstances change for the better, will she still need him as much as he needs her?  Adrian's sexy and snarky.  Despite dealing with prostitutes all day he's never judgmental of Perrie. Their banter is antagonistic early on as both are leery of the other, but as the story progresses they become more flirty with each other.  Their banter becomes verbal foreplay with interactions full of sexual tension that had me waiting with bated breath for them to finally jump each other.  From start to finish Adrian proved himself to be the quintessential book boyfriend and with each sexy word and sweet deed I fell for him completely.

From start to finish this was an engaging romance with a memorable heroine. Perrie was strong-willed and rolled with the punches life gave her, never making excuses for who or what she was.  Her anger over the past was understandable as she was always made to feel unworthy.  Those feelings led her to where she is when Adrian finds her and it's his acceptance and subtle support that pushes her in a new direction.  Adrian was stuck when he met Perrie, stuck in a life full of anger and resentment over the past.  Her fiery will brought him back to life though, gave him a glimpse of happiness and family.  His feelings for her shown through early on and had me rooting for him to convince her of his love every step of the way.  Their sweet interactions were nicely balanced with scorching words and erotically-charged moments that I wish we'd seen more of.  Acting as Cupid are Zac and Lola, the children of Adrian and Perrie.  I normally find children in romances annoying, but these two were immensely likable.  Their banter with each other and with their parents had me chuckling and when they were all together it was clear they were a family.  Ms. Hart unflinchingly depicts the realities of prostitution, the harsh realities that lead to desperation instead of glamour.  There's no judgments and no easy answers, but there's plenty to debate in this thought-provoking and sensual romance. Though this story can be read on its own it's more fulfilling to read it after the previous installment as events there affect the action here.  These two books ultimately make for a very HEA and I highly recommend them to readers looking for a unique read that you won't ever want to see end!

My rating for this is an A.
