MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

With images of badass country star Brantley Gilbert running through my mind I found myself quickly captivated by the scorching connection between a recently dumped singer and the fiery bartender who's down on her luck.  As events kept pushing them together they started to form a bond of trust that left them conflicted over their future, put more in doubt by the jaw-dropping cliffhanger this book ends on.

Boone Thrasher's at the top of the country music world with everything going his way until his girlfriend dumps him without a word just as he plans to publicly ask her to marry him.  It's a disillusioning moment but he doesn't let her duplicitious marriage to another keep him down for long once he meets a curvy and strong-willed bartender who's got plenty of problems on her own.  The closer he tries to get to her the more of a mess he makes for her, but that doesn't stop him from doing all that he can to support and take care of her. Boone's truly drool-worthy and oozes sensuality.  He's a bit cocky too but I still found myself drawn to him as his subtle arrogance was balanced with his numerous kind-hearted attempts to help bartender Ripley.  Their first meeting was combustible, from argumentative banter to unrelenting sexual tension that led to an erotically-charged encounter that became an obsession for them both. From there he amped up the charm as he rode to her rescue when she had nowhere else to turn giving her a friendly shoulder to lean on while enticing her to his bed repeatedly.  Through each of his encounters with Ripley he's clearly the king of dirty talk as his words and smoky voice even had my hormones racing.  From the moment readers met Boone in the previous series from Ms. March I knew he was going to be memorable and with him in the spotlight here I'm left with plenty of sexy fodder for very pleasant dreams as I look forward to how the cliffhanger he's left in is resolved.

Ripley's a strong-willed woman put through the wringer by her nasty cousin and father as they're a constant drain on her emotionally and financially.  She's loyal though which has her putting up with them despite the cruel taunts and words they hurl at her.  She's a devoted daughter too, to her mother who was killed at the bar she's struggling to keep afloat, as an homage to her memory of the happier times they had in the apartment above.  She's reaching the end of her rope though as her family keeps sabotaging her at every turn, ruining every good thing that happens to her.  It's a twisted relationship that had me aching for her and cheering her on to finally start standing up for herself.  She's drawn to Boone but her mother's affair with a singer has her holding back as she doesn't want to be labeled with her own mother's infamy.  It's clear though that the fight is a losing one as Boone's just too sexy and is the first person who helps and supports her wholeheartedly.  Their time together is combustible but also freeing for Ripley as Boone goes to great lengths to spoil her as she richly deserves after struggling for so long without familial support.  Ripley's an immensely likable heroine as she's tough, outspoken, with a body that's curvy and which she makes no excuses for.  She can stand up for herself against rowdy people in a bar but it's clear that her family's betrayals hurt her which had my heart breaking.  She's a good friend too as can be seen by the group of people who come when she calls, with interactions that were more reflective of a family than with what she has to those bound to her by blood.

This was a quick and immensely satisfying read that set a fast pace that had me turning the pages furiously.  Boone's life was on vivid display from his chaotic encounters with the public while turning on the sex appeal on stage, to his lack of privacy amongst bodyguards, to those rare peaceful moments on his farm that he eagerly shares with Ripley.  Through it all readers get to see many sides to the sexy crooner and all of them were more appealing than the last. Ripley's a delightful heroine, someone you're always rooting for as she's truly a good person.  She works far too hard with no appreciation from others, so I saw her time with Boone as a well-deserved reward for all the crap she's been put through.  From start to finish this was a story teeming with sensuality that caught me in its sensual web and I look forward to where things go after the frustrating (but fully expected) cliffhanger readers were left with.

My rating for this is an A-

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.
