Kendall Parker's unique issues have made it hard to live a normal life. Very few people understand her and she trusts even less … but she believed in Julian once, and he only betrayed her.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

The past weighs heavily on two people whose past relationship was one based on lies and obsession.  It was a scorching relationship and an unhealthy one that readers got a glimpse of in Going Down Easy.  Forced apart they both took time to heal and are now face to face once again to see if there's any truth to the feelings they once felt for each other.

Kendall's time with Julian was at the height of her bipolar disorder which clouded her judgment and had her engaging in risky decisions.  She truly thought she loved him but it was all part of his plan of revenge that was brought to light by her protective sister Lexie.  Since then she's gotten on the proper medication and seems to have her life under control.  She's no longer that flighty young woman he once knew.  She's more introspective, more cautious, and is leery of letting Julian back into her life.  When he adopts a dog from the agency she works for though she finds herself drawn to the caring man he appears to be and slowly puts her heart back in his hands in a relationship teeming with sexual tension.  Kendall's immensely likable and, like an addict, can admit how out of control she was and has worked hard to become a stronger person.  For so long she let her sister take care of her but now she's clearly taking control of her own life which had me cheering.

Julian was a horrible person for using Kendall the way he did, but he too was a mess when they were together.  He was an addict and full of rage as he enacted his plan of revenge and after everything blew up in his face he knew it was time to change.  He makes no excuses for his actions and is truly sorry for hurting Kendall, as he didn't know about her mental illness.  While he did in fact use her he was very much drawn to her and the exuberant way she lived her life.  He enjoyed her wild side and it had him embracing the same choices.  After joining AA he's a changed man now though and wants to make amends...if only Kendall will give him a chance.  Bonding over their love for an adopted dog gives them the chance to see each other in a whole new light.  They have the chance to truly start over as they're not the same people they were the first time they were together.  Julian's a better man when this story starts, more concerned about others, and shows an endearing side when he adopts a dog.  He owns up to the pain he caused and doesn't push Kendall to accept him.  He lets her set the pace in a relationship that's weighed down by her protective family's judgments and fears.

This was a nice addition to the Billionaire Bad Boys series as it brings a former background couple into the spotlight.  They're a couple that was put through the wringer through their own choices but have come through it much stronger.  It's a sweet and sexy romance, but heartwarming too with time spent with cute and cuddly dogs that brings out an endearing side to Julian and a more mature and competent side to Kendall.  There's not a lot of angst to this story but there is interference from Kendall's protective family, a bit too much at times which showed them to be very judgmental, which ultimately brings out Kendall's protective side when it comes to Julian.  Their relationship was a journey of rebuilding, rebuilding themselves as individuals and as a couple, and it was a satisfying journey that was nicely tied up with a bow in an epilogue that made me smile.

My rating for this is a B+
