Book Tour for Defying Her Mafioso by Terri Anne Browning (REVIEW)

Readers who like romance with a sense of darkness and characters whose motives are never quite clear will find themselves drawn to this first installment in The Vitucci Mafiosos.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Defying Her Mafioso by Terri Anne Browning, along with my impressions of it, then add this enticing read to your bookshelf!

Ciro Donati was many things:
My father’s most valued and trusted soldier.
My brother’s best friend and second in command.
And the only man I would give up everything for.
I fell hard for the Mafioso at the tender age of eleven. This beast of a man who I knew made people disappear—and probably enjoyed every second of it—was also the sixteen-year-old boy who had picked me up after I’d fallen flat on my face during my dance recital and told me I was the best ballerina he’d ever seen. He’s watched over me, protected me like I was the most precious thing in the world to him.
And then he sent me away.
Scarlett Vitucci was many things:
The daughter of the biggest Cosa Nostra boss from New York to Chicago.
The sister of the man I would gladly take a bullet for.
And the only woman I would ever love.
Sending her away was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I didn’t deserve her or her love. For three years I stayed away, ignoring the gnawing ache that her absence left in my chest. Now, she was back and fighting what I felt for her was impossible. Letting her go had been a huge mistake.
One I would never repeat.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

With its compelling characters, heart pounding action, and romances full of twists and turns Ms. Browning has crafted an engaging series starter that kept me on edge from start to finish.  When young love denied becomes a scorching connection between two adults caught in the middle of a battle being waged by a dangerous madman, readers will find themselves quickly consumed by action in and out of the bedroom and longing to see more of these characters in the future.

Ciro Donati has risen quickly through the ranks to become a part of the inner sanctum of the head of the Vitucci family.  To get there he's done many things he's not proud of, things that taint how he sees himself, and is the reason he sent the only woman he's ever loved away.  He has loved Scarlett Vitucci for years but has kept her at arms length over the belief that his past deeds have made him a monster, a bad man unworthy of her goodness.  Having a hand in sending her away has led to hurt feelings but also some heartfelt truths that ultimately lead them into each other's arms.  When Scarlett is kidnapped by an enemy Ciro can no longer hide or ignore his feelings and takes readers on a whirlwind race to the immensely satisfying conclusion.  Ciro shows his cold and commanding side in public as a man others know not to cross, but with Scarlett he's gentle and caring.  When with her he laughs and gives into every one of her desires.  It's a dichotomy that's very sexy and is what draws you to him and the other men inhabiting this world.

Scarlett Vitucci brings great pride to her father and if she had been born first she would be running things beside him.  She's a strong-willed woman who protects what's hers, never without a weapon as she knows the truths about the world she lives in.  She's a kindhearted person, especially close to her twin sister Victoria, who has loved Ciro since she was young.  He was her hero then and is still her hero today as he saves her from danger and finally claims her for himself in a journey to HEA that hit a few speed bumps along the way.  Scarlett was a likable young woman who knew she was meant for Ciro.  She saw him as a good man, a man with heart, who would do anything to make her happy and keep her safe.  She supported him wholeheartedly and unconditionally and it makes them a formidable couple with a romance worth rooting for.

With its heartwarming romance between Ciro and Scarlett balanced with the dangers from an encroaching enemy resulting in blood and a sea of dead bodies a compelling groundwork has been laid that will leave readers longing for more. It's a world that's gritty that requires blood to be shed which leaves the line between good and evil greatly blurred and has me intrigued to know more about those shedding that blood.  Scarlett's brother Cristiano and his closeness to the sister of a Russian mob boss, cousin Dante's quiet yet clear desire for cousin Allegra, and the intriguing glimpses of fellow warrior Desi promise plenty of romantic fodder for the future from these commanding yet caring men. The romance between Victoria Vitucci and Russian mobster Adrian Volkov was a heartbreaking one and I'm utterly obsessed with it.  There's a Romeo and Juliet vibe to their burgeoning romance as the obstacles to their HEA keep growing. From her illness to secrets regarding his past theirs is a connection that has me on the edge of my seat as I love the power she has over him that makes a man feared by all into a teddy bear when in her presence.  Their romance rivaled, and in some ways surpassed, that of Scarlett and Ciro and I was captivated by the glimpses of them throughout this story.  From start to finish this was an engaging read that's a fine addition to the genre.  The characters inhabiting this world are colorful and immensely appealing for all their faults and have me counting down the days until the next installment in this sensual and suspenseful series!

My rating for this is an A-
