Good girls don’t date rockstars.
They certainly don’t take rock stars as fuck buddies.
Still a virgin at 21, Meg Smart walks a straight and narrow path. She aces her classes, excels at her part time job, and carefully avoids the black hole that is mourning her sister. There’s no room in her life for trouble–no drinks, no drugs, and especially no boyfriends.
Fine with Miles.
Rock star Miles Webb doesn’t do boyfriend. He doesn’t do intimacy, or love, or anything that isn’t effortless and casual. The only time the singer reveals himself is on stage. His gorgeous, tortured voice hints at the kind of unspeakable pain Meg understands all too well. Only the second he steps off stage he transforms into a cocky, know-it-all player.
Their chemistry is red-hot. He’s tattooed, tall, and totally irresistible. She can’t handle a one-night stand, and a relationship is totally out of the question.
That only leaves one option:
Friends with benefits.
Just sex. Just fun.
No secrets, no feelings, no falling in love.
Only neither one of them can quite abide.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a fan of rock star romances I found myself quickly caught up in the emotional tug-of-war between two people and their painful pasts full of loss and their fear in trusting others to find a new future.  This is a story teeming with angst and painful emotions that are palpable and put readers through the emotional wringer alongside two people afraid to admit their true feelings.  It's a super sexy story too where sex is often employed when emotions become too difficult for the characters to express.  These scenes are numerous, almost too numerous, but show the strengthening connection between rocker Miles and the stoically heartbroken Meg as their fears of being hurt again have them relegating their relationship to one of friends with benefits.  Before long though they can no longer hide from the truth and must face their pasts head-on if they hope to have any kind of HEA together.

Meg's still reeling from the death of her sister from drugs.  It's left her untrusting of others and just going through the motions of living.  Studying and staying at home, venturing out occasionally to stand on the sidelines have turned her into a shadow of her former fun self.  Her life changes irrevocably though the moment she sees the naked Miles and the powerful, thrilling, and sexually combustible power he has over her.  Theirs is an emotionally draining, yet sexually-charged, journey of friends to lovers to something even more as they deal with weighty issues of addiction and trust that's frustrating at times but immensely satisfying.  Through it all Meg knows she's in over her head but being with Miles makes her feel like never before in a journey that leaves readers cheering and screaming at the same time.  Meg's an admirable heroine who's coping the best she can.  She's tired on living a life of lies which is the biggest obstacle to her HEA with Miles and will require a very Grand Gesture on his part to prove his devotion.

Miles is super sexy, a true rock god with a hidden heart of gold.  He too has experienced loss, but instead of hiding like Meg, he's poured out his feelings in lyrics.  He has other demons that weigh on him still though, ones that he knows could ruin his burgeoning connection with Meg that have me worried for him and the effect the pressures of being an up and coming rock star will have on him. Despite his own personal pain he was supportive of Meg in every way, even when she was pushing him away.  He was snarky at times but immensely charming and he's the newest addition to my list of book boyfriends for all his sweet and sensual actions.

Miles and Meg's relationship is compelling to see as their interactions crackle with steaminess and witty banter.  They're both strong-willed which puts them at odds as each tries to keep their feelings hidden from the other but it left me rooting for these two emotionally bruised souls.  Surrounding this conflicted couple are an intriguing group of friends with lots of issues of their own.  This series starter introduced us to the four other members of the band Sinful Serenade and their own relationship problems, focusing on guitarist Drew and Meg's friend Kara and their difficult to define relationship.  There's also foster brothers Tom and Pete and their antagonistic relationship with their being complete opposites.  Miles's bandmates are uniquely portrayed and immensely appealing and I long to see them reach their HEAs as each has their own painful pasts just hinted at.  The rock star world is also vividly portrayed with all the typical vices in a larger than life way that further immersed me in the story. From start to finish this was an engrossing romance teeming with sensuality and angst that has me excited for where Ms. Kaswell takes us next in this rock star romance that's a satisfying addition to the genre.

My rating for this is a B+/A-
